First #13 seed Iona takes on #4 seed Iowa State on Thursday, March 17 at 2:00 pm ET from the Pepsi Center in Denver, CO on TBS. This is Iowa State’s fifth consecutive trip to the dance while Iona’s last trip was in 2013. The Cyclones have the edge in points per game averaging 81.8 while the Gaels average 79.6. Iona has a narrow advantage in rebounding (36.9 vs. 36.1), assists (16.8 vs. 16.5) and steals (7.6 vs. 6.2) per game.
The #9 seed Providence Friars are up next when they play the #8 seed Trojans of Southern California at 9:50 pm ET at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C. on TBS. Providence will be making its third consecutive appearance in the Tournament while USC will be making its first trip since 2011. As expected for an 8/9 game these two teams have similar stats. For the Friars: points 74; rebounds 36.6; assists 15.9; steals 6.6. For the Trojans: points 80.8; rebounds 39.5; assists 14.9; steals 6.3.
Finally the BIG EAST Tournament Champions #6 seed Seton Hall will play #11 seed Gonzaga at 9:57 pm ET on TNT at the Pepsi Center in Denver, CO. This is Seton Hall’s first trip to the NCAA tournament since 2006 and first ever for Head Coach Kevin Willard. Gonzaga is making its 18th consecutive appearance, 16th under Head Coach Mark Few. Again these teams are close in stats. For the Pirates: points 74.8; rebounds 40.0; assists 13.5; steals 7.3. For the Zags: points 79.7; rebounds 39.6; assists 13.9; steals 5.1.
